As a protest against subsidy cuts to families with three children,  members of such families made Greek dishes of gemista (stuffed peppers and tomatoes) and took these with them outside the Ministry of Labor, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity. The Panhellenic Federation of Large Family and other groups in support of families chose this unique form of protest to drive home their message following comments made by Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) Deputy Labor Minister Theano Fotiou who had said that Greeks could make gemista out of practically nothing and live like that.

Large families with three children want to continue receiving subsidies amid fear of cutbacks. They state that the government has been dishonest regarding its policies and they are also calling to have the same rights as members of larger families. They state that they are helping Greece, a country whose low birth rate is a problem, and should not be punished by having their funds revoked.
