Farmers’ massive demonstrations, the clashes occurred at the center of Athens and Greek government’s inability to deal with the strong social reaction were once again covered by international media with extensive articles on Greece and the protest actions.

The news network news.sky.com in its article, entitled ‘Farmers riot in Greece as recession returns’, combines yesterday’s clashes with the announcement of the official statistics which show that the Greek economy shrank 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2015.

“Having fallen 1.4% in the third quarter the country is now in recession again” the article mentions.

In the meantime, aljazeera website writes about the massive protests of farmers focusing on the violent episodes that broke out between farmers and police outside the Ministry of Rural Development.

“Farmers are angry about government plans to increase their social security contributions as part of a wider reform of the country’s ailing pension system,” it mentions adding that protesters believe that these measures lead to “the death of the farmer, especially the small and the middle-class of farmers”.
