According to data presented by the Russian statistics services, Greece has fallen to fifth spot as a tourism destination for Russian nationals. Compared to the 2014 Russian travelers choosing Greece as their holiday destination fell by 48 per cent in 2015, while Russian holiday travels abroad in general declined by 31.3 per cent, with a total of 12.1 million trips. According to the Russian Union for the Tourism Industry ‘Irina Turina’, this is the largest decrease since 1998. Greece as a destination fell to fifth from third place among the top 10 tourist destinations for Russians. Despite the hostile relations between Russia and Turkey over the past months, Turkey remains among the two most popular choices for Russian tourists, the other one being Egypt.
