Opposition party New Democracy (ND) has called for an official parliamentary probe into the revelations regarding the infamous ‘Plan X’, disclosed by former Greek Finance Minister Yianis Varoufakis and US economist James Galbraith. ND MP Christos Staikouras stressed the first 5 months of the SYRIZA government’s negotiations with Greece’s creditors had cost the country between 86 and 100bn Euros. Commenting on the revelations made by Galbraith, Staikouras called on Tsipras to openly say for how long he had been considering the shutting down of Greek banks in the event a Grexit had occurred. Meanwhile, PASOK MP Andreas Loverdos said his party would back New Democracy’s proposition, but added that the parliamentary inquiry should cover the whole period starting from Greece’s entry into the common currency union till the present day. SYRIZA MP Makis Balaouras caused the opposition party of trying to deflect attention from the issue of the parliamentary investigation into loans received by the systemic political parties by banks.
