Breaking: Riot police block female cleaners from approaching PM’s residence

Workers protesting for unpaid labour

Newsroom February 2 01:08

A special riot police unit used force to block a group of 30 protesting female cleaners from the Road Transport company (OSY) who attempted to approach Maximos Hall in Athens where the Greek PM Alexis Tsipras resides. The cleaners were initially confronted by women police officers, but when things got out of hand a riot unit was called in to stop the workers who were protesting for lost wages. Despite the blockade, a small number of protesters managed to break through the line and approach the PM’s residence. So far it is not clear whether police have made any arrests.
