2nd Beach Street Festival of Lesvos: Graffiti and music

The festival takes place from August 1-3 and brings over 100 graffiti artists and 50 musicians to the island

Newsroom July 18 12:22

The 2nd Beach Street Festival of Lesvos is expected to bring over 50 musicians and 100 graffiti artists to the historic Castle of the isle of Mytilene from August 1 to August 3. The event that kicked off last summer at Vatera Beach brings splashes of vibrant colors to the island.

Initially it began as a gathering of friends from all over Europe in a music and graffiti meeting to spraypaint an abandoned hotel at Vatera Beach but, due to the enthusiasm of the crowd, turned out to be much more.

This year’s location is the Castle of Mytilene and the surrounding area, the forest and Tsamakia beach with events happening back-to-back at different regions. The organizers aim to create a graffiti route marked by murals from the port of Mytilene to the Theofilos Chatzimichael-Teriade museum.

Artist Theophilos Chatzimichael was a self-taught artist of Mytilene known for his traditional murals depicting folklife (see below). The idea is to show the history of art from modern graffiti techniques all the way back to tradition.
