Professor Salvatore Lo Sicco, who inspired “London to Athens Bike Tour 2014” to raise awareness of European public opinion for the reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, met the Deputy Minister of Culture, Angela Gerekou.
The professor of Italian origin, who lives and works in Great Britain, traveled from British Museum in London to Acropolis Museum in Athens by his bike.
His journey began on July 1 and after 35 days and 8 hours cycling per day he arrived in Athens.
His initiative was supported by the British Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles.
“I believe that the return of the Parthenon Marbles is a moral and historical obligation which concerns all of us” said Mr. Lo Sicco, who received the return ticket to London from Ms. Gerekou, as well as a votive figurine of a dove, a copy of the Hellenistic period, as a recognition of his effort.
Also, they discussed to hold a big event on the reunification of the Parthenon Marbles in London.
“I would like to thank you on behalf of all Greeks. The vision for the reunification of the Parthenon Marbles remains alive. Such initiatives fill us with strength to continue the fight for a request which is not only Greek, but an international request and reaches people of culture and art, and ordinary citizens around the world,” said Ms Angela Gerekou.
