According to the Minister of Labour overdue payments to Greece’s social security funds have reached 10.5 billion euros.
Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis had said the current situation is a result of a fragmented system that had many inequalities.
The data gathered by the Social Security Arrears Collection Center show that 83% of the overdue payments date back to years before 2009, while 66% of the debtors owe up to 20,000 euros.
The majority of the overdue payments is owed to the Greece’s largest social security fund (IKA), the farmers’ social security fund (OGA) and that of the self-employed professionals (OAEE).
