The government’s goal is to achieve 3.3% growth per year without imposing new measures according to the new Medium Term Plan for 2015-2018 presented by Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras. The plan is scheduled to be submitted by Friday at the Parliament.
To achieve this, the government relies on forecasts for market recovery, the return of liquidity, increase of tax revenues, primary surplus in the upcoming years and the relief measures agreed with our European partners. The latter was something that Mr Staikouras pointed out twice by saying that European partners have already committed to do so. Also, he did not rule out the possibility of reducing taxes by October.
The government has to secure additional state revenues of 2 billion per year and reduce government spending by 1.7 billion from this year until 2018.
However, all these pose many risks, as he admitted, and Troika has many doubts. In the medium term program the government recognizes that there is fiscal gap for 2015 but Mr. Staikouras said that he hopes this gap will become zero at the end without imposing additional measures.
