The UN negotiations for the release of the peace keeping from Fiji who were held hostage by rebels in the Syrian Golan Heights are ongoing.
Furthermore, according to the latest update the number rose to 44, while the number of soldiers from the Philippines who remain excluded in two communities in the region are 72.
According to the UN spokesman Stefan Ntouzarits, these figures were revised after “crossing and confirming the license” of soldiers.
At the same time the Prime Minister of Fiji, Frank Beinimarama said today that the UN peacekeepers are safe while still negotiating with the kidnappers for their release.
The Prime Minister of Fiji stated that “The Government of Fiji is working closely with the United Nations for the release of the 44 peacekeepers” , while added that “The latest information we have is that they are safe and now I can say that the negotiations for their release have begun”.
