Women from around the world are heading to the isle of Lesbos for the two-week International Eressos Women’s Festival from September 6-20. The 14-year-old festival is a celebration of the history, culture, achievements and diversity of women – all women, regardless of race, age, interests or sexuality.
The festival is organized by Sappho Women, a non-profit group based in the gay-friendly village of Skala Eressos on Lesvos that happens to be the birthplace of the poet Sappho and was originally created and financed by the Sappho Travel Agency.
The community-driven group aims to promote the solidarity and spiritual empowerment of women locally and abroad. The program includes live music, dance parties, open-air film screenings, an alternative fashion show, an exhibition, excursions and other workshops and activities such as tai chi, laughter yoga, olive oil tasting and other exciting events.
