Venizelos on the new findings in the archaeological site of Amphipolis

PASOK's president speaks on the latest findings

Newsroom September 7 06:14

“The findings in Ancient Amphipolis confirm the importance of being able to hold history in your hands through the archaeological excavations,” government vice-president, Foreign Minister and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos on Sunday underlined commenting on the new findings unearthed in Kasta Tomb in the archaeological site of Amphipolis, northern Greece.

The archaeological wealth of the Greek land is equal to the richness of the ancient Greek literature, history and civilization, Venizelos underlined in a press conference in Thessaloniki in the context of the city’s 79th International Fair.

Hinting on the efforts made by Skopje to usurp Macedonia, he pointed out that “we handle these issues with national pride, as world heritage issues, and this is our strength. This is the strength of the Greek civilization and Hellenism”.

He also underlined that the findings in Amphipolis will attract the interest of visitors as in the case of Pella and Vergina while, at the same time, they will serve as a new comparative advantage for the prefecture of Serres.
