A photographer teaches 1500 puppies how to swim

Using an underwater camera he recorded their expressions

Newsroom September 17 10:36

Have you ever wondered how your puppy would look like, if it swam? It is rather unlikely for you to find out, but the author of New York Times Seth Casteel decided to record their expressions and created a photo album with underwater puppies.

The talented author of “Underwater Dogs” had the unique idea to put 1500 puppies into the water and using an underwater camera to capture their expressions.

Castel decided to use puppies in this album because, as he says, “puppies are the most amazing creatures on the face of the earth,” and he also wanted to raise awareness to water safety for pets.

“Each year, thousands of pets drown in backyard swimming pools in the United States because proper safety measures have not been taken by their human companions,” Casteel told TODAY.com in an email. “These terrible tragedies can be prevented. Many people assume that their pets ‘won’t go into the pool,’ or they deny their dog the right to go in and learn. This mentality is directly putting your dog in danger because at some point, your dog will be in that pool, and it is absolutely critical that he or she is prepared.”
