A Mexican state legislature has asked the country’s government to fine Miley Cyrus for desecrating the Mexican flag during a performance in Monterrey in the northern state of Nuevo León.

During the show on Mexican Independence Day, one of the dancers spanked Cyrus’s bottoms with a Mexican flag as she twerked.

Mexican lawmaker Francisco Trevino stressed that Nuevo León state legislature has approved a warrant for the interior ministry to enforce the law on use of the flag.

Cyrus and her team are likely to be fined for around $1,200 or be detained for 36 hours.

Mexican government is very sensitive about showing respect for national symbols. In 2008, singer Paulina Rubio was fined for $4,000 because she posed naked on a magazine wearing only the Mexican flag.
