Today, a member of the European Parliament (MEP) stated that the Russian authorities of the Moscow airport declined her entry to the country, since her presence is ” Undesirable” in Russia.
Leader of the Green group in the European Parliament Ms Rebecca Harms said that the police authorities of the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow informed her that by allowing her entry to the country they would be committing a “criminal act”.
According to a representative of her office she then decided to get the first plane back to Brussels.
The German MEP was visiting Russia in order to be present in the court hearing in Moscow of the Ukrainian pilot Nantieznta Savtsenko.
Moscow blames the Ukrainian pilot for participating in the murder of two Russian journalists while fighting in eastern Ukraine.
Nantieznta Savtsenko was captured in June by the pro-Russian separatist rebels and was held in prison in southern Russia. Kiev has accused Moscow of kidnapping her.
MEP’s office highlighted that according to its sources. this is the first time that Russia refused entry to a member of the European Parliament.
