Over 1,000 items from 6,000 BC to be displayed at new Archeological Museum in Alexandroupolis

The inauguration was done by Minister Lina Mendoni

Newsroom June 29 05:21

More than 1000 ancient objects, clay pottery items, glass, bronze and silver, coins, sculptures and tombstones, weapons, ornate jewelry, figurines, tools, and everyday objects, covering a long period, from the 6th millennium to the 4th century will be showcased in the new Archaeological museum at Alexandroupolis.

The new museum was inaugurated by the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni, and the exhibits of the museum tell the history of the area of Thrace, from prehistoric to Roman times. The presentation of the exhibits is accompanied by video projections and digital multimedia applications.

Lina Mendoni in her greeting noted: “Today we present to the city the Archaeological Museum of Alexandroupolis, an emblematic landmark, which will promote and teach the history and culture of the Regional Unit of Evros. Our policy, which we set out at the Ministry of Culture, at the beginning of 2000, was for each capital of the prefecture to have its own archeological museum: A place of culture, education, entertainment, social gatherings, and at the same time, a tool for development in each region. The establishment and operation of the Archaeological Museum in Alexandroupolis have been a request of the local community since the 70’s. Today, after almost fifty years, it is becoming a reality.”
