Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras tabled on Wednesday a draft bill Parliament outlining measures for nonperforming loans and overdue debts to the public sector and to social insurance funds, as well as provisions for the debtors protection.
This draft bill is SYRIZA’s first step in demonstrating its commitment to abolish austerity measures, the party says.
According to the draft bill’s introduction, the measures are consistent with the promises made by SYRIZA at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
However, the main opposition party states that “they are not a comprehensive framework of policies for the productive and economic reconstruction, nor a comprehensive framework of taxation, labor and social policy.”
The measures are described by SYRIZA as “an immediate, necessary intervention that couldn’t be postponed, aiming to halt the destructive course of the economy and society.”
