The United States has confirmed reports that it has asked the Greek government to arrest Islamic State militants traveling to Greece from Bosnia and Albania, according to the United States State Department’s Spokesperson Jen Psaki. She stressed that travel of foreign militants isn’t just a matter of concern to Greece. U.S. intelligence service are aware of 15,000 foreign jihadist militants of which 2,000 are believed to be of western descent.

Greece’s National Intelligence Service has already been at a heightened state of vigilance for suspected militants and is keeping close tabs on radical groups within the country. Experts believe that Greece’s position could become a conduit for radicals travelling from the realm of Islam to the West.
