PM Mitsotakis in Estonia: “Only through International Law will we resolve the differences with Turkey” (video)

Kaja Kallas thanked Greece for its support of Ukraine

Newsroom November 1 01:47

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a joint press conference at noon on Tuesday with his Estonian counterpart Kaja Kallas in the context of the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to the Baltic countries as yesterday, Monday, he was in Lithuania. The Greek Prime Minister sent a new message to Turkey condemning Ankara’s provocative rhetoric while at the same time assuring that Greece will remain committed to the sanctions against Russia.

The Estonian Prime Minister thanked Greece and personally Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the support provided to Ukraine so that Russia does not win this war.

Kallas, in the shadow of Russia’s latest missile attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, called for help in Kiev’s air defences as well as continued financial support for the Zelensky government.

“Our strength is based on our unity”, concluded the Estonian prime minister, referring again to Greece’s support within NATO.

For his part, Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the cooperation perspectives of Greece and Estonia, stressing that there is much that can be done in the field of digital reform. “I was impressed by the Digital Policy Ministry of Estonia when we were planning ours,” said the Greek Prime Minister. In this context, he sent an invitation to technology companies that want to invest that Greece is the right place to do so.

“I wish we could only discuss these things, but there is also a war in the Old Continent. Greece and Estonia stand with our EU partners and NATO allies on the war in Ukraine and the desire of anyone who wants to change the borders. We remain committed to military support and we too condemn the attacks against civilians and critical infrastructures in Ukraine,” said Mitsotakis.

“We have to convince NATO member states to apply the sanctions against Russia which are effective, the Greek Prime Minister said, “pointing” to Turkey.

Mitsotakis briefed, as he said, the Estonian prime minister about the tensions in the Aegean, including Turkish actions, and rhetoric that undermine stability in the eastern Mediterranean. “I will continue to say that there is only one way to resolve the disputes with Turkey: International Law.”

The PM also emphasised that “the questioning of territorial sovereignty and aggressive rhetoric on the part of Turkey is unacceptable”.

The prime minister also made a reference to immigration, stressing that countries that use immigrants as tools must be condemned, again pointing toward Turkey.
