The Ukrainian flag has been raised in Kherson in pictures circulating on social media amid reports of a chaotic Russian retreat, with troops having destroyed the Antonievsky Bridge.
The Russian retreat appears to have been unorganized, with reports of leaving of wounded soldiers behind, while the Ukrainian shelling across the Dnipro River continues.
An estimated 20,000 Russian troops were stationed on the western side of Dnipro, in and around Kherson.
The Antonovsky bridge and the pontoon bridge are gone. Russians seem to have “ended” their withdrawal in that sector. Whoever didn’t flee until now is now stuck, though I suspect that most Russian troops are gone. #Kherson #Ukraine pic.twitter.com/REQHhtF4ea

The flag located in the center of Kherson is believed to have been raised overnight possibly by insurgents active in the city, as residents largely stayed indoors.
According to Russian reports, Ukrainian forces have entered the city.
