Newsroom December 5 03:36

The Greek army carried out the final phase of its tactical military exercise called “Colossus-22” last week. Among those attending was the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) general Konstantinos Floros, as well as the head of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lt. General Charalambos Lalousis.

As announced by HNDGS, the exercise took place from November 30 until Friday, December 2 in the area of responsibility of the 95th National Guard Battalion Higher Command.

It contributed on the one hand to the operational training of the military personnel in realistic operational scenarios, on the other hand to the promotion of interdisciplinarity and common operational understanding, the announcement noted.

Participants practiced defensive operations with mortar, artillery, and tank fire, combined with fire from attack helicopters and fighter jets directed by Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC).

During the course of the exercise, additional scenarios were carried out, including the transport and airlift of the injured, and the collection of damaged heavy assets.

In addition to the personnel and assets of the 95th Air Force, two F-16 aircraft participated in Close Air Support missions, two Apache AH-64 A/D attack helicopters, two OH-58D Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopters, two UH- 1H as well as the Special Operations team of the Special Warfare Command (DEP) of the HNDGS.

After the completion of the exercise, the HNDGS chief referred both to the readiness, vigilance, and combat capability of the Armed Forces, as well as to the operational benefit of the exercise and its importance for the sense of security of the local community.
