Hollywood blockbuster “Gladiator” will return from the distant 2000 to the big screen and already the production is in the final stretch, for the sequel of the multi-awarded film with Russell Crowe. It has been no secret for some time that the sequel of the film by 85-year-old Ridley Scott would be screened, to give the cinemagoers another adventure to the Roman Empire.
After all, the continuation of the film scripted by David Scarpa has been announced for months and after the internationally renowned director completed his last project, a film about Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix, he put the wheels in motion for “Gladiator 2”.
Despite the fact that the character, embodied by Crowe, Maximus Decimus Meridius, had an inglorious end in the end, the continuation of the film is a fact and in a few months, the first filming is expected to begin. According to information from the foreign press, the actors and the director will enter the set in March, while Normal People star Paul Mescal is in negotiations to lead the Paramount sequel to the Oscar-winning pic, with Scott returning to the directing chair. Scott also will produce, along with Scott Free President Michael Pruss as well as Doug Wick & Lucy Fisher via Red Wagon Entertainment. David Scarpa penned the script.
Also returning from the original film are costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max. The first film was a co-production between Universal and DreamWorks, and while DreamWorks will not be involved in the sequel, Universal has the right to partner again when the project is packaged.
Scott’s film, which triumphed at the Oscars in 2001, but also at the box office of the same year, still keeps its audience engaged to this day, who are waiting to see what takes place in “The Gladiator 2”. As reports of the foreign media say the script of the film is set 25 years after the events of the first film.
