Greek PM Mitsotakis met with the crown prince of Japan (photos)

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife had a meeting with the heir to the Japanese throne Prince Akishino and Princess Akishino on Monday as part of the Greek Prime Minister’s official visit to Japan.

During the meeting at Akasaka Palace, the challenge of climate change and the green transition were discussed.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis had the opportunity to inform about Greece’s initiatives and in particular the “GReco islands” initiative which aims to transform the country’s small non-interconnected islands into models of green economy, energy autonomy and digital innovations.

The Greek Prime Minister signed a joint declaration of Greece-Japan strategic cooperation with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.

The agreement is valued from the Greek side as particularly important, as it reactivates bilateral relations at the highest level and opens a new page, upgrading them to a strategic level.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis started his day with a meeting with the President of the House of Representatives, Hiroyuki Hosoda.

Immediately after, the Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Costas Fragogianni and the director of the financial office of the Maximos Palace Alexis Patelis had a meeting at the offices of the Japanese Industries Association (Keidanren).

The meeting focused on the will to upgrade and expand bilateral relations in all areas. The Prime Minister referred to the positive performance recorded by the Greek economy and the opportunities that exist for Japanese businesses.

They also discussed developments in Ukraine, international and regional developments, as well as Japan’s cooperation with Euro-Atlantic institutions. He emphasized that revisionism and changing borders by force cannot be tolerated. Referring to the Turkish challenges, he reiterated Greece’s firm position that good neighborly relations and International Law are the basis for resolving disputes between states.

The Prime Minister conveyed to Mr. Hosonda an invitation from the Speaker of the Parliament, Constantinos Tassoulas, to visit Greece.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis analyzed the positive prospects of the Greek economy, and the reasons why they should invest in it, to executives of the national Japanese organization of businesses and groups in a meeting held on Monday morning (Greece time) as part of the official visit of in Japan, stressing that Greece will reach the investment grade in 2023.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Greek delegation, was received by the Director Toshiaki Higashihara (CEO of Hitachi) and pointed out that Greece has now turned the page inviting them to consider investing in the country.
