Greece: An F-4E fighter crashed into the sea south of Andravida (Upd.)

The aircraft belonging to 338 Squadron was on a training mission – They did not have time to eject – Stay online

UPDATE: According to new information, the two pilots did not eject.

They two F-4Es were on a low flight part of the training mission below 300 ft.

Debris have been located 25 nm south of Andravida AFB.

An F-4E Phantom II aircraft crash in the sea area off Anravida on Monday morning.

According to initial information, the two-seater F-4E, which was on a training mission and was accompanied by another Phantom, crashed 25 nautical miles south of Andravida airport.

The downed aircraft belonged to the 117th Fighter Wing’s 338 Squadron and has so far not been located.

The second Phantom with which the F-4 that went down was conducting an exercise is over the accident area and is investigating while sea and air vehicles are moving towards the area from the Andravida base.

Three aerial vehicles, four Coast Guard vessels, one lifeguard and two private boats are engaged in the search.

At this time it is not clear whether the two pilots managed to use the ejection seat.

At the same time, it is not clear when the air accident happened, i.e. if they had just started the training flight or if they had finished and was returning with the other F-4E to Andravida AFB.
