The rift between former Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and David Gilmour is deepening. The fallout came to the fore after Waters claimed that Ukraine is “ruled by Nazis” and that “this is not a real country”.

The comments come just days after Gilmour’s wife, Polly Simpson, reiterated in a tweet that Waters is an “anti-Semitic” and “Putin apologist”. In fact, David Gilmour stood by his wife by liking and retweeting Polly Simpson’s post and as a sign of support he wrote: “Every word demonstrably true.”

Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core. Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.

Waters was quick to debunk these claims saying they are “grossly inaccurate” and “inflammatory”, adding that he is “taking advice on his positions”.

It should be recalled that the co-founder of the band that dominated the past decades in the field of rock music previously caused angry reactions for what he said about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while Kyiv denounced him for telling the UN Security Council that the Russian attack was not “unprovoked”.

“The invasion was illegal. I condemn it in the strongest possible way,” he said via video, adding that “the invasion was not unprovoked. I also condemn the provocateurs in the strongest terms.”
