Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that Wednesday’s drone attack on the Kremlin was a “hostile act” and Russia would respond with “concrete actions.”

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching drones at the Kremlin in an attempt to kill President Vladimir Putin and claimed the United States was behind the alleged attack. Ukraine has denied this and the White House has rejected the accusation calling it “Russian lies”.

“It is clearly a hostile act, it is clear that the terrorists of Kiev could not have done it without the knowledge of their bosses,” Lavrov said at a press conference in India.

“We will not respond by talking about ‘casus belli’ or not, we will respond with concrete actions,” he added.

The Latin term “casus belli” used by Lavrov means “cause of war” and is used for an act that provides justification for a declaration of war. Russia’s war in Ukraine is now in its 15th month, although Moscow continues to describe it as a “special military operation”.
