In his latest post that was published on his blog – peritexnisologos.blogspot.gr (“Peri Texnis Logos” means “The Word About Art”) artist and designer Gerasimos G. Gerolymatos presents a fascinating drawing of the gate that was discovered at the dig site at ancient Amphipolis.

As we can see in the drawing, the gate is adorned by the two Caryatids whose extended hands, according to the designers opinion, could have been holding something symbolic, like a laurel wreath made of marble or a lighter metal.

Mr. Gerolymatos notes in his post that the drawing that features the Gate of the Caryatids and the Ionic door was based on the official data released by the archaeological team and the Ministry of Culture.

“In any case, I have completed the cross-checking of the key elements (a very time consuming process which significantly slowed me down), so that any small difference in specific structural parameters does not affect the general picture given by the representation,” the designer underlined.
