The Union of Cruise Shipowners and Shipping Organizations appealed to Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias against the implementation of a European Directive on biometric data collection relevant to tourists visiting Europe on board cruise ships. They wrote an urgent letter stating that many of the country’s seaports lack the proper infrastructure and staff necessary for procedures of this kind for tourists from non-EU countries. Sometimes the number of tourists from third-country seaports who are holders of the visa in questions are in their hundreds. For instance, cruise ship owners representatives said that three cruise ships arrived on Mykonos on Saturday, October 11, with rougly 7,000 passengers.
