Equality for families with three children as part of efforts to address demographic issues

All infant and children's products ought to have low tax rate (6%)

Newsroom April 18 10:56

The Youth Organisation of New Democracy proposed equal laws to families with three children as a measure to support families and reverse the country’s low birth rate.

“It’s a way for the government to reward parents for having large families in general by providing them with incentives such as a 50% reduction in the income tax threshold for freelancers, reduced electricity bills, increased scoring in nationwide exams and student transfers, exemption from luxury tax on 6-seater vehicles, and protection from redundancy.”

Furthermore, among a series of proposals, it suggested adding all infant and children’s products to low tax rate (6%), facilitating measures for new parents such as implementing a 4-day workweek or “mandatory” telecommuting, and creating an information and application platform for housing programs for citizens.

With these proposals the government aims to contribute in efforts to mitigate the consequences of  demographics and housing issues.

It also notes that another step in this direction was taken today with the activation of the parentalbenefits.dypa.gov.gr platform, through which maternity benefits are granted for the first time to non-salaried mothers, freelancers, self-employed individuals, or farmers.
