Easter: The most popular destinations for this year’s holidays (photos)

Increase of 20% in traffic compared to last year - Accommodation in a 4-star hotel starts at 50 Euros per person

Newsroom April 28 11:19

During the Easter period, island destinations in Greece will be particularly popular, with Greeks showing a high interest in the Ionian Islands and the Cyclades. Additionally, hotel resorts on other islands that have opened their doors for the 2024 season will also see increased foot traffic.

With tourist activity during Easter expected to increase by 20% compared to last year, according to Lysandros Tsilidis, president of the Federation of Greek Travel Agencies (Fedhatta), domestic tourism will boost confidence in the local tourism industry. This isn’t surprising, as travelers have always desired to journey during the Easter period and will continue to do so, Tsilidis emphasizes.

Specifically, Fedhatta reveals the destinations that have gained popularity among Greeks, according to travel agencies. The islands of the Northern Aegean, including Chios, Leros, and Lesvos, top the list, followed by the Cyclades and the Dodecanese, with Tinos, Syros, Paros, Naxos, Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Patmos, Kos, and Leros leading the way. The Ionian Islands are also favored this year, with high demand for Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Lefkada, Paxos, and Ithaca due to their traditional Easter customs.

Mainland destinations such as Pelion, Zagori, Ioannina, and Chalkidiki are attracting travelers who prefer inland excursions, while those seeking a combination of sea and land are heading to Halkidiki. The Peloponnese, especially Monemvasia, Stoupa, Kardamyli, and Kalamata, as well as Xylokastro and Nafplio, are experiencing high visitation rates. Additionally, Greek travelers are heading to all coastal areas with hotels that have opened after the Catholic Easter.
