Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ attention may have been focused more on the efforts of New Democracy’s electoral recovery and the increase of its rallying, but the government’s work is inflexible.
Thus, this morning the prime minister is convening the cabinet, with the most interesting bill being the one from the Interior Ministry on productivity bonuses for public sector executives, based on specific criteria, while on Tuesday Mitsotakis will address Parliament on the Justice Ministry’s bill that brings radical changes to the country’s judicial map.
The prime minister, moreover, is sending the message that the government’s machinery has not… ‘relaxed’ because of the June election deadline, although he will put his weight behind the tours and the election campaign, especially immediately after Easter.
In any case, several of his tours and targeted visits are related to highlighting the government’s work, as was the case on Saturday when he visited DYPA’s Career Days in Piraeus, a few days after the publication of data from ERGANI showing that March was the best March in the labour market in 23 years, as more than 63,000 new jobs were created in the private sector.
In any case, as the Easter days approach and everyone will seek a short break before the May election “forts”, Mitsotakis’ main aim is to close as many fronts as possible.
He met with Archbishop Ieronymos in Dilesi on Friday in a very good atmosphere, while the Prime Minister will attend the Service at the Metropolis of Athens on Thursday, with the Archbishop presiding.
Over the weekend, the members of the New Democracy party ignored Kyriakos Velopoulos’ warnings and were present en bloque in churches, both on Lazarus Saturday and on Palm Sunday.
The main goal of the government staff, however, namely party rallying, seems to have been… on the rails. Based on MARC’s survey for “THEMA”, the blue rally is measured at 69.2%, a figure that apparently may increase in the next month.
In fact, there is a large part of the “leakers” of the ND who either have not decided what to vote for or are heading for the “other party”, which for the ND staff means that there is room for reconnection with the right moves.
According to competent party sources, the barrage of tours that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will make from May onwards, along the lines of the national elections, will be of grave importance, as he intends to turn the country around again.
Also, immediately after Easter, the “sprint” of the blue party’s party cliques will begin, with ministers, deputy ministers, general secretaries, deputies and party officials expected to cover all the large and medium-sized cities of all the prefectures of the country. In fact, some ministers who have assumed “electoral” responsibility of districts in the country have already started their excursions.
The bar for 2019
A few days ago, Kyriakos Mitsotakis set the ‘bar’ for the ruling party at 33.12%, which it had gotten in the 2019 European elections. Based on a series of surveys, the latest being that of MARC, ND seems to be close to this target, as the electoral barometer lists it at 33.4% in the vote estimate.
It should be recalled that the ruling party appears at a similar percentage in other surveys in recent days, such as GPO’s for Parapolitika and Opinion Poll for Action24.

The predominance of the ruling party is also evident from an additional finding of Marc’s poll measurement concerning the party closeness felt by citizens. In particular, in the relevant question, 32.5% of the poll sample answered that they are closer to the New Democracy (ND).
At the same time, Mitsotakis is still the strong card of his party, being the most popular political leader, but also the most suitable for prime minister with 37% in the relevant question.
Interesting in terms of government momentum is the slight improvement in the satisfaction index with the government’s work, which is now approaching 40%, thus surpassing the electoral influence of ND and thus demonstrating the potential “reservoirs” for the ruling party.
