Increased road safety measures from 7 to 10 June throughout the country, due to the European elections

What the ELAS recommends to citizens

Newsroom June 6 10:46

The ELAS is implementing increased road safety measures throughout the country due to the holding of the European elections on June 9, starting tomorrow, in order to create conditions of smooth and safe road traffic and facilitate citizens in their travels, as well as to prevent road accidents.

In particular, the measures are gradually developed from tomorrow, Friday, June 7 to Monday, June 10 and will be escalated – peak hours – days of mass exit-entry of vehicles, from and to major urban centres.

The planning was carried out under the responsibility of the Traffic Police Directorate of the Hellenic Police Headquarters and includes the basic guidelines for the development of measures throughout the country’s road network, as well as individual interventions, based on local problems and the particular traffic conditions prevailing in each region or district.

The design of the measures includes:

– increased traffic control measures at the entrances/exits of large urban centres where there is heavy vehicle traffic,

– increased traffic control measures in areas where there is a high volume of passenger traffic (airports, ports, ports, stations, etc.),

– increased police presence and increased policing of road network locations where there is a high incidence of road accidents.

– Be particularly careful when driving and observe the rules of the Road Traffic Code.

– Respect road signs and comply with the instructions of traffic officers.

– Do not use mobile phones or other distracting devices while driving.

– Do not consume alcohol when driving.

– Protect children in the vehicle by using child seats.
