Today’s Weather is Volatile – The First Heatwave of Summer on its Way

Instability continues today, with gusty winds tomorrow, and temperatures rising from Monday onwards - The forecast from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) extends until Tuesday

Newsroom June 7 11:51

Volatility continues today, with a slight decrease in temperatures, while tomorrow instability will be limited and north winds will dominate. However, starting from Sunday, the day of the European elections, temperatures will begin to rise again, and by midweek, we will experience the first heatwave of the summer.

According to meteorologists, the upcoming heatwave is expected to exceed 40°C and even reach up to 44°C in some areas.

For now, today and tomorrow are expected to be relatively cooler, with maximum temperatures estimated not to exceed 35°C-37°C.

According to Sakis Arnaoutoglou, from 30-32°C on Friday, we will reach 42°C the following Thursday, June 13. The meteorologist posted on Facebook a detailed table with the maximum temperatures expected nationwide next week, noting, however, that local maximum values should be calculated as two units higher.

Thus, from Tuesday 11/6 to Thursday 13/6, maximum temperatures above 40°C are expected in Attica, western and southern mainland Greece.

Conversely, in the mountainous areas of Greece, even at 500 meters altitude, temperatures will be 3-6 degrees lower. A “special” situation is expected on the islands, where although the maximum temperature will be 3-5 degrees lower, humidity will be increased, further complicating the situation.

Regarding the strengthening of north winds today and tomorrow at 6-7 Beaufort with a decrease in temperature and mercury at 37 degrees on Election Sunday, the director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, Theodoros Kolydas, predicts a gradual and noticeable temperature increase starting from next week.

Kallianos: Challenging week

A new heatwave with temperatures exceeding 42 degrees Celsius will hit the country, creating a “hellish” scenario next week, according to meteorologist Giannis Kallianos’s forecast for the coming days.

As everything indicates, a new heatwave will affect the country starting from Monday, with temperatures possibly reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius by the end of the coming week.

“If the data we see is confirmed, we will experience a hellish week,” Kallianos said on MEGA.

Today’s Weather

Local clouds will increase in the afternoon on the mainland. Sporadic showers and thunderstorms will occur initially in the mountainous regions of central and northern mainland Greece. From the afternoon, the phenomena will intensify and affect mainly the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of mainland Greece and western Crete, as well as low-lying areas of Macedonia and Thessaly. There is a possibility of hail mainly in the central and northern mountainous areas in the afternoon. Dust concentrations in the atmosphere will be relatively high, especially in the south.

Temperature in Western Macedonia will range from 15 to 29 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 21 to 34, in Epirus from 18 to 35, in Thessaly from 21 to 35, in Central and Southern Greece from 20 to 37, in the Ionian Islands from 20 to 34, in the islands of the Northern Aegean from 21 to 37, in the islands of the Eastern Aegean from 22 to 39, in the Cyclades from 23 to 32, in the Dodecanese from 23 to 38, and in Crete from 21 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Winds in the Aegean will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort. Particularly in the sea areas around Crete, winds will blow from the west at 3 to 5 Beaufort, but in the Cretan Sea they will turn to north of the same intensity in the afternoon. In the Ionian Sea, winds will blow from the north at 2 to 4 Beaufort and in the north from noon at 3 to 5 Beaufort.
