Weather – Kallianos: Heatwave coming from Algeria, Tunisia and Libya on Tuesday – Up to 43-44 degrees

From Wednesday the peak, unknown duration - Kallianos calls on people in vulnerable groups and government agencies to prepare to deal with the phenomenon

Newsroom June 7 03:18

For the heat wave that will concern us from next Tuesday and will peak on Wednesday, writes in a post the meteorologist and MP of the New Democracy, Yannis Kallianos.

According to what he says, this wave will arrive in our country from Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, with its duration remaining unknown for now, while he estimates that temperatures will exceed 41-42°C and will reach 43-44°C in the heat-prone lowland areas.

The post of Yannis Kallianos:

“Prepare slowly, because from next Tuesday, June 11 and onwards we will be affected by a strong heat wave coming from Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. This heatwave looks like it will start to peak from Wednesday 12 June onwards.

Its duration is still unknown, as models have not yet “aligned” on a common scenario as to its duration.

Without the forecast landscape being fully clear yet, and with all due caution because some data may change, temperatures are expected to exceed 41-42°C during this heatwave and reach 43-44°C in heat-prone lowland areas.

Whether the temperature will not reach 44°C or even exceed 44°C is something no one can speak about with certainty at this time. By Sunday I think the forecast landscape will have fully cleared up.

Please, please, let our fellow citizens who are the vulnerable groups, the elderly, parents take appropriate measures for their young children and of course take care of our pets, especially the stray ones.

Clearly this kind of heatwave has come to our country before, but that does not mean that we should not be careful and prepared to deal with it.

Let us be ready for something strong and let it come even weaker. May it come weaker.

More details will follow in the coming days.”
