The highly anticipated deal for Olympiacos has finally materialized. Sasha Vezenkov is returning to Olympiacos, the team where he flourished under the guidance of Giorgos Bartzokas and earned the title of EuroLeague MVP.
The Bulgarian forward’s journey back to Europe follows his brief stint in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings. The trade that transferred him from Sacramento to Toronto paved the way for this move. Vezenkov will be released from his NBA contract and placed on the waivers list for 48 hours, but he has chosen to return to a familiar environment.
Vezenkov will sign a multi-year contract with Olympiakos, reportedly for a minimum of three years. During his time with the Kings, he averaged 5.4 points with a 37.5% three-point shooting percentage, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists over 42 games.
Vezenkov, who began his career in Greece with Aris, later played for Barcelona before joining Olympiacos from 2018 to 2023. With Olympiacos, he won two championships and two Greek Cups, leading the team to the Final Four of the EuroLeague in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, he was voted EuroLeague MVP before accepting the Kings’ offer to join the NBA.
Notably, Panathinaikos also expressed interest in acquiring Sasha Vezenkov.
