Acts of sabotage affecting the fiber optic networks

Six regions in France have been affected - The Paris area has not been impacted

Newsroom July 29 11:16

The source added that the regions affected are Bouches-du-Rhône, Aude, Oise, Hérault, Meuse, and Drôme cities of Paris and Île-de-France, where the Olympic Games are taking place, were not affected.

The affected regions are located in southeastern, southwestern, eastern, and northern France, according to the police.

The “nighttime sabotage” of the fiber optic networks does not appear to have caused outages but rather slowed down the networks. As a result, the Twitter account of Free Pro, the professional branch of the provider Free, stated this morning that “since 2:15 AM today, our national network has been experiencing significant slowdowns.”

These new acts of vandalism come as the railway network has just recovered from a series of sabotage acts committed on its lines during the night from Thursday to Friday, a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Fiber optic cables had been cut and set on fire at various strategic signaling points. These cables run near the tracks and ensure the transmission of safety information to train drivers.
