A man wanted for the arson of a synagogue in France was arrested by the police after an exchange of gunfire late on Saturday night (August 24).
According to BFMTV, he was shot multiple times, but his life is not in danger. The French network also reported that the suspect is a 33-year-old Algerian national.
The arrest was made by special forces police officers around 11:30 PM on Saturday in a building in the Pissevin neighborhood of Nîmes.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), the acting Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, confirmed the arrest of the alleged arsonist.
The footage from the cameras around the synagogue helped in identifying the perpetrator of the arson attack. The man was wearing a Palestinian flag and was armed.
