Lesvos: Firefighter who beat his wife in front of their 2-year-old son is remanded in custody

The firefighter had previously assaulted his wife

Newsroom August 30 07:00

The 36-year-old firefighter who savagely beat his wife last Sunday in front of their two-year-old child at their home in Polihnitos, Mytilene, has been sent to jail.

The 36-year-old man, who completed his four-hour apology to the investigating judge shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Mytilene courthouse, was found to be temporarily detained with the agreement of the prosecutor.

The perpetrator, who was suspended from his service in the Fire Brigade, had previously committed violence against his wife.

“Now we can sleep soundly,” said the lawyer, Eustratia Hatzigianni, of the 40-year-old woman who suffered a savage beating.

It is recalled that the firefighter was taken to the interrogation office of the Mytilene courts on Friday morning in order to plea.

According to “Nissi“, the perpetrator was arrested after the self-incidental arrest, while he had the audacity after the expiration of the auto-hour to go to the police station and file a complaint against his wife for… domestic violence. There he was arrested by the police and detained until today.

At the end of the self-incrimination period, the prosecutor ruled the offence a felony rather than a misdemeanour, as he took into account the two previous times the 36-year-old had committed the offence.
