It was October 2020 when Microsoft announced the creation of the first data center in our country. It took four years for the company to get the first building permit for the main building in Spata.

If one takes into account the competition between would-be suppliers and subcontractors and the time required by archaeologists to check an area and the mobilization that needs to take place among the people of the local government to take care of critical infrastructure, one realizes the magnitude of the challenge for every investor, Greek or foreign.

On Wednesday, September 11, the Joint Ministerial Decision paving the way for the issuance of building permits for the Microsoft’s $976 million investment was published in the Government Gazette.

The relevant building permits are expected to be issued in the near future and the construction of the first of Microsoft’s three data centers in Spata will begin.

The other two, which have been announced, will be built in a second year.

The building permit, will coincide with the 4-year anniversary of the October 4, 2020 announcement of the investment.
