Turks send oil platform for repairs in Lemesos

Sailed from the port of Alexandretta in two cargo ships for Cyprus

Just before 19:00 the “alarming information” of Turks convey towards the sea area of Cyprus a drilling platform to locate hydrocarbon deposits, disrupted

According to information broadcasted from the Public Cypriot National TV, the platform which has been rented by the Turks is already transported by two ships sailed from the port of Alexandretta to Cyprus. According to military sources it departed in early hours on Tuesday and is moving very slow, about 4 knots per hour, while its capacity is very limited and has no specifications for research in the open seas.

In a communication with protothema.gr, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs downgraded the issue noting that the platform is Romanian and that is transferred for service in Lemesos (Cyprus city of freedom) with the permission of Cyprus.

According to Cypriot government sources to protothema.gr, the vessel -drilling rig has a contract with a Cypriot company to make repairs in Lemesos and there is connection to “Barbaros” in the Cypriot EEZ.

However, the conjuncture caused an alarm. In two days the Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras will be in Cyprus for an official visit, while the Turkish research ship “Barbaros” continues conducting unlawful seismic surveys in the Cypriot EEZ.
