On Tuesday, September 17, relatives, colleagues, and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes to Dinos Karydis, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 85.
The first to arrive at the Zografou Cemetery was the actor’s daughter, Smaragda Karydi, unable to hold back her tears over the loss of her beloved father. Devastated by the loss, the well-known actress honored his memory with a wreath that read: “To my dear dad. Your daughter, Boubou,” as he affectionately called her. Accompanying Smaragda Karydi throughout the day was her partner and actor, Thodoris Atheridis.

Spyros Bibilas spoke about his long-time friend Dinos Karydis, describing him as a “very important person” to him. He shared: “Dinos and I had a very affectionate relationship since we first met in ’79 at the ERT studios. He loved me with such great affection and became a family friend. I got to know Smaragda as a child, with her school bag. Later, we worked together in theater. He was a precious person who was lost, a significant talent, and a modest actor who never sought attention. He had an incredibly familial calm. He was very important to me.”
Dinos Karydis was born in Athens, graduated with honors from the Drama School of Athens, and made his theatrical debut with the pioneering Theater in the play “The Snail,” directed by Giorgos Yannisis. During the same period, he participated in the iconic performance of Hadjidakis-Argyriaki-Horn, “Odos Oneiron,” directed by Alexis Solomos.
In his younger days Karydis was often recognized as the blonde actor alongside the late Aliki Vougiouklaki, as they starred together in the classic film “Aliki in the Navy.”
His acting talent was showcased across film, theater, and television series, where he skillfully displayed his phlegmatic humor and clever lines.
