Ionas Karousis, a 26-year-old Greek citizen and resident of Jerusalem, lost his life during the attack, bringing grief to his family and the Greek community. He held dual citizenship (Greek and Israeli) and was the son of renowned neurologist Dimitris Karousis, who moved from Thessaloniki to Israel in 1988. His mother is also a doctor.

Karousis was reportedly a student in Tel Aviv, while his parents live in the new city of Jerusalem.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sorrow for his loss and condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for respect for human life and the fight against terrorism. “We express our sincere condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones,” the ministry’s statement said.

The Greek diplomatic mission in Israel is in close contact with local authorities to support the victim’s family and handle the necessary procedures.

The attack occurred in the Jaffa area, one of the most well-known districts of Tel Aviv, amid heightened tensions in the region. The international community has condemned the violence, stressing the need for peace and stability in the Middle East.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement reads: “We unequivocally condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack in the Jaffa area of Tel Aviv. We announce with deep sorrow that among the victims is a Greek citizen, a resident of Jerusalem. We express our sincere condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.”

Seven Dead in the Attack at a Tel Aviv Tram Station

It should be noted that seven people were killed in yesterday’s attack by two Palestinians at a tram station in Tel Aviv on Thursday night, according to the latest report from Israeli police.

Initially, six deaths were reported, but one of the injured succumbed overnight. “The injured person arrived at the emergency room in critical condition (…) and after a battle to save him, doctors pronounced him dead,” said Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital.

Previously, the police had announced that six people were killed and nine others injured in an attack involving both firearms and sharp weapons, carried out by “two terrorists” who were “neutralized” by bystanders using personal weapons.

Israeli media reported that two of the deceased were 30-year-old Sahar Goldman and 33-year-old Inbar Segev, both Israeli women.

The attack took place yesterday near the Sderot-Jerusalem metro station in the Jaffa district. The two attackers opened fire inside the train before getting off. They continued shooting while walking along Jerusalem Boulevard, according to police.

One of the attackers was shot dead at the scene, and the other was injured and taken to a hospital in serious condition. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men were Palestinians from the occupied West Bank.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. local time.
