Diddy claims that the U.S. government, specifically the Department of Homeland Security, leaked the video of him attacking his ex-partner, Cassie.
In a new appeal filed in court seeking his release until trial, the musician states that the leak occurred in hopes of “undermining the rapper’s right to a fair trial.”
According to court documents, his lawyers argue that he wishes to request an evidentiary hearing “to investigate the alleged government misconduct regarding illegal leaks that led to damaging publicity prior to trial. These leaks, allegedly orchestrated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), are claimed to have harmed Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial.”

The documents further state: “The defense contends that DHS agents participated in a seven-month campaign to undermine Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial by leaking confidential materials and requested a hearing regarding how a 2016 hotel videotape was leaked to CNN. The leaks resulted in highly damaging media coverage, particularly prompting investigations and involvement from Mr. Combs’ family.”
The musician was arrested on Monday, September 16, and taken into custody in Manhattan following a series of allegations of sexual assault.
The indictment, unsealed the following day, accuses Diddy of abusing, threatening, and coercing women for years “to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his behavior.”
