The Greece U21 team (known as “Ethniki Elpidon”) will face Croatia at 19:00 in the final match of their qualifying group for the EURO 2025. This game will determine the future of the Greek team in the tournament.
The match takes place in Koprivnica, Croatia, and is considered a “final” since it will decide the second-place team in the group.
Portugal is currently the group leader, having secured a 3-1 win against the Faroe Islands on October 11. This victory guaranteed them a direct ticket to the final stage of the tournament, as this is awarded to all first-placed teams in the nine groups, plus the host country, Slovakia.
The remaining six spots for the final tournament will be filled by the three best second-placed teams, while the other six second-place teams will compete in playoff matches scheduled for November 11-19.
As of October 11, Greece held the second position in the group, but Croatia’s 2-0 win over Andorra dropped Greece to third place. Now, the situation is clear for the upcoming match: the Greek team, coached by Yiannis Tassioulis, must win to overtake the Croatians, who are coached by former international Ivica Olic (with a career in Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow, and others). The Croatian side only needs a draw to maintain their position.
