US elections: Tom Hanks – Rita Wilson – Nia Vardalos among the group of Greek-Americans supporting Harris

In a letter signed by 78 prominent members of the Greek Diaspora, they announce their support for the candidacy of Kamala Harris

Newsroom October 21 05:00

78 prominent members of the Greek expatriate community published a full-page letter in the New York Times yesterday supporting Democratic candidate and U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election.

Specifically, the letter stressed that “whether America remains a bright city on top of the hill’ will be decided at the ballot box” and emphasized that “Above all, we know that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are committed to defending democracy and its fundamental virtues – freedom, honesty, decency, compassion, consensus, and cooperation – that are the foundation of our national and economic strength and stability.”

The text of the letter states: “WE ARE FURTHER MEMBERS OF AN AMERICAN COMMUNITY with a strong and distinctive heritage of democracy. We believe that our collective voice matters in preserving and advancing the ideals that strengthen our community and our country. That is why we support Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

In our great nation of immigrants, our family stories and Greek heritage embody the American Dream. This November, whether America remains “a bright city on top of the hill” will be decided at the ballot box. The values of hospitality, honor, freedom, and democracy, which are the essence of the Greek-American identity, are reflected in the life and career of Vice President Harris, making this election not only about politics but also about preserving the ideals that strengthen our community and our country.

We stand with Vice President Harris in her fight to strengthen border security and for comprehensive immigration reform that is fair, effective, and compassionate. Her commitment to maintaining a strong NATO alliance ensures global stability and the security of America, Greece, and the world. Her bold climate change initiatives will protect our planet while preserving the cultural heritage, natural beauty, and economic stability of America and Greece. Above all, we know that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are committed to defending democracy and its fundamental virtues – freedom, honesty, dignity, compassion, consensus, and cooperation – that are the foundation of our national and economic strength and stability.”

It is highlighted that prominent members of the Greek-American community signing the letter include Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, director Alexander Payne, Nia Vardalos and Michael Dukakis.
