Addressing a logistics conference, Kyriakos Loufakis, the head of Northern Greek exporters association (SEVE) noted that the development of the Thessaloniki port as a transit hub and the absorption of 1 million TEU loads can result in a total midterm economic benefit of 1.5- 2.5 billion euros (6-10% of Central Macedonia’s GDP).
Noting that Thessaloniki has the potential to become as significant as other large ports in Northern and Western Europe, Mr. Loufakis highlighted the geographical benefits of the region, making specific reference to the inland of the Thessaloniki port that reaches Southeastern and Central Europe.
The SEVE head also underlined the need to develop the conventional port of the city so that many regional exporters can be benefited by its effective and productive operation.
