A Georgian elderly lady related to a Georgian inmate was caught visiting the prison with a large amount of narcotics. During the conflict that ensued concerning her visit, a group of inmates reacted and caused damage to the ground floor of the prison’s hospital.

Riot police entered the prison and there were clashes between wardens and Georgian inmates. 25 people were found in the outdoor area of the prison of which 15 returned following negotiations whereas the others remained in the courtyard. Unconfirmed Justice Ministry sources refered to a hostage situation in which three employees were injured.

Justice Ministry sources say that the wardens promptly responded to the flaring tension. The situation is now under control and the prosecuto is at the prison.
