Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, at the Maximos Mansion.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and discussed cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, tourism, culture, and shipping.
Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of keeping open communication channels between the EU and China to address global challenges, including climate change. He highlighted the EU’s strategy of “de-risking,” aimed at ensuring the resilience of supply chains and balancing trade.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for China’s support of Greece’s candidacy for the UN Security Council (2025-2026) and welcomed the steady progress in economic relations, encouraging greater efforts to address trade imbalances.
He noted that Greece offers a secure investment environment for Chinese companies, in compliance with national and EU regulations. Mitsotakis pointed to Greece’s rapid economic growth and its commitment to attracting investment and creating quality jobs.
Referring to Cosco’s investment in the Port of Piraeus, he acknowledged its contribution to the port’s development as a key hub in the Mediterranean and its role in boosting local economic activity.
Zhao Leji conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, praising Greece’s economic recovery and expressing his desire to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and deepen bilateral ties.
