The Chios Subdivision of Crime Investigation and Prosecution has solved a fraud case targeting a local woman on the island of Chios, following an investigation conducted about two weeks ago.
Two individuals—foreign nationals (a 53-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman)—were identified for their involvement in the case, and criminal charges for fraud have been filed against them.
Specifically, according to the police investigation, an unidentified individual contacted the woman by phone, impersonating a hospital doctor. Using the pretense of an urgent need for surgery on a relative of hers, they managed to convince her to hand over €9,000 in cash, along with jewelry and a gold coin worth approximately €1,500, to two accomplices who appeared near her home.
Further investigation revealed that the woman handed over the aforementioned cash, jewelry, and gold coin to the two identified suspects.
The investigative work is being conducted by the Chios Subdivision of Crime Investigation and Prosecution.
