The Thessaloniki Misdemeanor Court imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, on a 19-year-old who spray-painted walls and glass panels at the “Venizelos” station of the Thessaloniki Metro.
The young man, who is the first to be arrested for an offense involving the Thessaloniki Metro, was found guilty of property damage to a facility used for public benefit. The court recognized his youth as a mitigating factor due to his post-adolescent age.
In his testimony, the 19-year-old explained that he painted at the Venizelos station to express his love for his girlfriend, stating that he wrote the word “H.A.T.E.” – an acronym for Heart A. (his name) To E. (his girlfriend’s name) – at four different spots.
“I did it for my girlfriend, to show her my love. I wanted her to see it and be impressed,” he said, emphasizing that he regretted his actions and that he does not usually engage in graffiti.
